Connecting busy families
Designing and building a native iOS app for Virgin O2
Services
UX, Visual, Motion Graphics, 3D
The brief
O2 saw an opportunity to offer more value to families beyond its core mobile services. The task was to design a family app from the ground up, create a testable prototype, and validate the concept with a limited group of customers before moving forward.
The challenge
The project had to go from concept to a live customer trial in just three months.
Working as an embedded member of the O2 Innovation Lab, Snook partnered with O2's native iOS developers from day one. There was no existing product or codebase to build on, so everything was created from scratch as a native application in Xcode.
Alongside product design, we worked closely with O2's internal marketing team, who sponsored the project, ensuring the product aligned with both customer needs and business objectives. The app was then released to a limited group of customers as a three-month live trial.
Keeping it fun
Designing for children meant every interaction had to earn their attention. We developed a set of bespoke 3D rewards and icons that made completing tasks feel genuinely rewarding, rather than simply ticking a box
Each asset was modelled and rendered by hand to complement the app's visual language, giving the interface a tactile quality that helped bring the experience to life.
